Mountain Life Care is proud to be one of the first providers in the United States to deliver this innovative and research proven practice to benefit those who are living with the challenges of Alzheimer's, Stroke and other Traumatic Brain Injuries.

"With each session, she seems to be quicker to recall people and events, and quicker to interact with Steve in her sessions. I have noticed a clear and definite improvement.  She is more engaging and seems to be happier. This therapy is having a very positive impact on her."  Sue B.

When words like Alzheimer's, Stroke and Brain Injury enter our personal vocabulary, our lives our radically changed--quite often--hope leaves, replaced by fear and despair.

Cognitive Stimulation Coaching is a one-on-one series of structured interactions designed to provide a supportive, personalized and mentally stimulating experience that are not only beneficial but also enjoyable for the participant.  Interactions are delivered in a carefully balanced series of twice weekly, hour-long sessions which blend reminiscent, reality-orientation, cognitive stimulation and reasoning exercises.

If permitted by the individual, family and friends are consulted, advised and counseled during the process.  This adds to the richness of the interaction and extends the beneficial affects from beyond a set of interactions with a coach to multiple interactions with close family and friends.

"It’s been really hard to see my Dad deteriorate, he’s not always the father that I’ve known, because he’s slipping a little bit mentally."

[I feel] "better knowing I can leave my father and know that he’s going to be okay when I come home.  Not only is he okay, but he’s often in a better mood than if he had sat there by himself all day."  MaryJo G.

While there is no cure for some neurological diseases like Alzheimer's, Cognitive Stimulation Coaching has demonstrated an ability to improve the quality of life for the individual and those who are close to them.  Participants and their families have reported such outcomes as:

  • Increased cognitive ability, including memory and reasoning skills

  • Increased independence

  • Decreased depression and anti-social behaviors

  • Enhanced awareness of their surroundings

  • Increased socialization and confidence

  • Increased attention span

"We both remain very encouraged and hopeful for Mom’s continued improvement. We know that this therapy does not offer a cure,... but if Mom can regain some of her ability and willingness to converse and interact with the people around her, and participate in more activities available to us, the quality of both our lives will be tremendously improved. It already has been in just a very brief eight weeks."  Sue B.
